Oakland Tennessee
is located on the west side of Fayette County along Highway 64 just
10 miles west of Somerville and 28 miles east of Memphis.
Most recent U.S. Census Bureau figures show this Fayette County
town to be the fastest-growing municipality in all of Tennessee.
The City of Oakland grew 20.6 percent - from 1,403 to 1,692 - between
July 1, 2003 and last July 1.
Oakland has a proud heritage dating to 1830, when the town was first
settled by pioneers who came from Virginia and the Carolinas. The
highlight of the year is Oktoberfest - held each year in October
and takes place at the Oakland Center Mall on Highway 64. The festival
features food and craft vendors, children’s rides, lots of
balloons and live entertainment.
